Ray Newland started playing in goal at the aged of eight and started
his professional career as an apprentice at Chester City in the English
third division. Rays career took him to Plymouth Argyle FC, Torquay United FC,
Chester City (second time as a professional) Clydebank FC, and premiership
soccer clubs Wigan Athletic FC and Everton FC.

Over his ten years as a professional goalkeeper, Ray was coached by some of the best goalkeepers in the world at the time. Legends like, Peter Shilton (England International), Neville Southall (Welsh International), Joe Corrigan (England International), Peter Bonetti (England International) and the goalkeeper voted ‘The best keeper of all time’ Gordon Banks (England International).

Even as a young professional goalkeeper, Ray loved coaching and every professional soccer club that he played for, he voluntarily coached at his soccer clubs ‘academy’ or ‘center of excellence’ as they were then called.

Ray states. ‘As I child, I could get no specialized goalkeeper coaching anywhere! So I vowed if I ever became a professional goalkeeper, I would give something back to children!’

Over Rays ten years as a professional goalkeeper and coach, he helped many budding young hopefuls make it to the professional levels.

Unfortunately for Ray, his professional career came to a premature halt when he was just twenty-eight years old through a freak training ground injury.

However, even though this was a blow for Ray, this was to become a blessing in disguise for young goalkeepers around the world, because he started Just4Keepers.

Since ray started Just4Keepers in 1999 it has become an ‘International Phenomenon’ with Ray bringing together professional and even International goalkeepers around the world to create the biggest collection of goalkeeper coaches under one roof
